Looking back on accomplishments in 2010 and forward to goals for 2011

2010 is in the books, it was a big year for me in lots of aspects of my life. Lots of growth in my spiritual / church life, trying to become a better husband and growing in our (I still think its) new marriage, improving in my career, and some amazing travel experiences. And while all those things are important to me, what this blog post is about is some athletic goals. This has really been the first year that I have set such specific goals and actually tracked them the entire year. It turned out to be a great motivator to stay healthy and fit in 2010.

I completed these races this year:

12k Snowshoe Race - Big Bear, CA

World Famous Mud Run - Camp Pendleton, CA

ASYMCA Mud Run - Camp Pendleton, CA

30K Trail Run - Big Bear, CA

I had a blast doing these as they helped to push me further and harder than before, and I look forward to participating in some more in 2011. Thus far I'm planning on doing these:

SJT 50K - Santa Ana Mountains, Orange County, CA

World Famous Mud Run - Camp Pendleton, CA

ASYMCA Mud Run - Camp Pendleton, CA

I feel like I did not do enough hiking in 2010, I have lots of hikes that I want to do around California and Oregon, etc... Here are a few of the (substantial) hikes/trail runs that I did do.

Hikes:
Bertha Peak - Big Bear, CA
Mt. Baldy - Angeles National Forest
Borrego Palm Canyon - Anza-Borrego, CA
Ernie Maxwell Trail - Idyllwild, CA
Mt. Lowe - Pasadena, CA

Trail Runs:
Main Divide - Maple Springs Loop - 16 miles
Santiago Truck Trail - 12 miles
Harding Truck Trail - 14 miles

But there are SO many more that I would love to do, here's some that I hope to hit in 2011:

San Jacinto Peak
San Gorgonio Peak
Mt. Whitney
Topanga State Park
Any/all of the trails in the Cleveland National Forest in the Santa Ana Mountains
and so many more...

As I said, I was much more meticulous about tracking my progress in 2010 than ever before, and kept logs of my workouts throughout the entire year. I must say it has been totally worth it for me. I've been able to push myself more so that I can "stay on track", and it keeps me from slacking off.

Looking at this I realized that a big reason why I didn't hit my original goal of 1500 miles in a year (other than naivety) was that I didn't ride nearly as much as I was expecting to, partly due to injury, partly due to bike issues, largely due to excuses. But hopefully I will be able to bump that significantly in 2011. I am hoping to get some friends to do the "Grand Traverse" (A 60 mile ride across the Santa Ana mountains) with me this year. Another something I noticed is only 17 miles of paddling??? Really? We're definitely going to need to rectify that this year. In case you're wondering, "Other" is just a catch all category for hikes or any other significant mileage that I covered that does not fall in the other categories. However I did not count any mileage gained on machines or treadmills at the gym, this was all actual mileage that I covered with my own power.

As for goals with 2011, I'm thinking keep that part simple again. I'll probably still track the crap out of every little stat, because I love all of that. But my main goal is to go over 1000 miles this year. That's averaging around 20 miles per week instead of 12. And I'm posting it here on the internetz now so I won't try and change my goal halfway (or next week) through the year (or next week). So here's to long runs, epic rides, awesome hikes, and adventure... can't wait!

On Saturday I got to attend what was to me a pinnacle of watching lots and lots of TCU football my entire life. The Horned Frogs finishing an undefeated season by winning at the Rose Bowl. We sat through every home game of many loosing seasons, and that just makes this all the sweeter! Go Frogs!

600 Miles!

For several various and a sundry reasons, I've been inspired to give my blog another go. Mainly in hopes that it will help to inspire me and push me to do more in 2011. Early on in 2010 I decided to make myself a goal to travel over 1500 miles in the year under my own power, like running, biking, paddling, etc... Soon into the year I realized that this goal was a bit lofty, but what good are goals if not lofty right? Unmotivating, that's what. So I adjusted my goal to a more reasonable 600 miles (50 miles per month). And so I've been shooting for that ever since. Today I passed my goal. I went for a 9 mile run this morning before work and halfway through I stopped to take this picture at the 600 mile mark (just so happened to be my favorite view of San Clemente).

One of the various things I want to start posting on the blog is my runs. I want to do this to help keep me honest, help push myself harder, and perhaps inspire others. Plus I hope to do some cool runs/rides, and thought people might be interested in those trails, etc...

Weekend (before last) Update

I skipped a few updates, but wanted to put up some pics from our weekend camp trip up in Idyllwild, its a quaint little town near San Jacinto. Our camping experience was a bit sub par, but we're kinda camping experience snobs. Meaning we like camping in the Sequoias, Yosemite, Zion, or any other place far far away from tons of people. So we probably shouldn't have expected the same peaceful camping just outside of LA and the OC. But we made the best of it anyhow, and it turned out to be a lot of fun. We went fishing on Lake Hemmet to teach Dani how to fish, and she caught her first fish ever! And the best part is she still wants to catch more! On Sunday we went on a fun hike that had 14 geocaches on it, and we found all of them. Good times...

Weekend Update (5 Day Weekend!)

Last week we went up to Dani's parent's ranch up in Oregon, for a 5 day weekend trip, and we took Holli and Huy Do with us. It was a blast, and were pleasantly surprised to find that we can spend that much time with another couple and we are still friends with them. We packed alot in. Rock climbing with Denver and Chelsea, shooting off the Linthicum's porch while Denver cooked a ton of ribs, Crater Lake, Bend, whitewater rafting the Rogue River in inflatable kayaks, scenic drive down the rugged Oregon coast, Rosburg, Geocaching, camping in the Redwood National Park, and an amazingly long drive home that was caused by Google Maps lying to us, causing us to get home at 5:30 in the morning instead of midnight as planned.

Dani and I went to Texas last week for my 10 year high school reunion, and to spend some time with the fam. While we were there though we decided to take a tour of Jerry World. It was amazing!

SATURDAY

Ran the Mud Run at Camp Pendleton with Rocky, Mike, and Chris. It's a blast of a 10k with lots of obstacles like walls and mud pits and stuff. Finished it in 1:09, and we placed 12th out of 78 all male teams, and 16th out of all 428 civilian teams (male, female, and mixed). Not bad! I'm doing it again with work in 2 weeks, which people at work think I'm "insane" to do it twice, "within 2 weeks!"

For the afternoon, we grilled some dogs and invited some peeps to hang at our place and since there was an intense marine layer over the beaches this weekend, we decided to play some of our favorite game, Monopoly Deal.

Dani had purchased Groupon for a gift cert to Peppino's Italian restaurant so we went and had a nice romantic dinner on the patio overlooking Lake Mission Viejo. Very nice.

SUNDAY

We attended Mariners Mission Viejo once again, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Then went back to our house with big plans of beaching or kayaking, but arrived back in San Clemente to the afore mentioned marine layer, and decided that didn't sound like fun anymore, so we called up our new neighbors in Ladera Ranch, Rocky and Jennifer, and went out on a hike with them. Snagged a few GeoCaches and then hit the pool. Multiple pools actually as we tooled around Ladera Ranch's many pools searching for just the right one for us. We had swimming races in the pool and discovered that Dani and I are very evenly matched when it comes to swimming, and we think we should explore that activity more often. Then they offered us giant steaks to eat, and you all know I cannot turn that down. Thanks JOCKY!

Weekend Update

So, its been over a year since my last post. I suppose life just got busy and this got pushed aside, but it's back after popular demand. At least I'm going to attempt to bring it back!

I realize it's Wednesday, but it was a long weekend. So here's the update.

FRIDAY

We went out on our 3rd whale watching attempt. We left for an evening cruise with Rocky and Jennifer out of Dana Point in hopes of seeing some Blue Whales, since it is the season for them, but alas, no blues, just a measly 40 foot Humpback!

SATURDAY

Dani had to work in the morning so I grabbed Mike and Nate and we hiked Mt. San Antonio, better known as Mt Baldy. Its the 3rd highest mountain in SoCal, and one I've wanted to hike for a while now. I scored a coveted permit to hike Mt. Whitney this summer, so I figure we better get some training hikes in. It was an awesome hike with some amazing views, but it was a windy day and we had to contend with 40 mph winds on the ridge line to the summit which was not fun at all.

This was partly to show the power of the wind, and partly to see how long I could get Mike to take off his jacket. Then we rested in our wind shelter before heading down.

SUNDAY

We decided that we would finally hunker down and do some spiffying up of the beach house since we don't have any plans to leave it in the foreseeable future. So we picked one room and attacked it! We chose to hit the office, and went at like those design on a dime shows you see on TV. A full day of work and an amazing $40 later, we had a much more inviting peaceful office to work in. I accidentally deleted the before pics somehow, but here's some after shots.

MONDAY

I finally got my first taste of the Zakaryan Wiffle Ball Day in Ladera Ranch. Had been invited the last few years, but each year we were busy backpacking in Yosemite or getting engaged in Sequoia to make it. I must say we have been missing out. It was quite fantastic, and way more official than I thought wiffle ball could ever be. And after we finished all 20 innings we had good times hanging out with everyone at the Z's abode.

This weekend Dani and I had quite the "Earth Day" weekend. We saw Disney's Earth, and despite the resuse of Discovery's Planet Earth footage, and slight Global Warming agenda undertones, was a very enjoyable movie. It was cool to see on the big screen. Then we got to make use of our new memberships to the Zoological Society of San Diego, and went to the Zoo! Here's some of my best pics of the day... we already can't wait to go back.

WEEKEND UPDATE

This weekend Dani and I went camping with a whole grip of friends (i've been trying to work that word into my vocab more often.) We went about 15 miles from our house to this 8,000 acre wilderness park called Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park. It was about as cush a camping experience as you can expect, short of cabins, but as is required for camping a group of this size. (See description of size earlier.) It was lots of fun though and b/c it was so close we got to spend a ton of time there, and we got great warm weather!

Sunday morning, Rocky, Scott, Nate, and I charged up Sitton Peak at first light. Its a 3200' peak, but it allegedly has some of the greatest views in the Santa Ana Mountain range. It didn't disapoint.

That mountain in the distant left is San Grogonio, I believe.

The highest peak seen here is Saddleback Mountain (the tallest peak in the OC).

That's Catalina Island in the distance.

It was a cool hike and a cool trip, and nice to see that there is actually a ton of green space surrounding the sprawling metropolis that is the OC. It helps to not feel quite so fenced in.

Friday -

Dani and I were invited to eat Indian food with Neha and Astik. Ever since we got a taste of authentic Indain food at Neha's wedding, she had been promising to take us to their favorite Indian food restaurant in all of LA/OC. So we're thinking that its going to be some amazing authentic atmosphere/experience, and I asked Neha what it was called, thinking it would be something like "Bombay Palace" or "The Taj", but no, its called "The India Restaurant". So the atmosphere wasn't exactly all that amazing, although it was different. But the food held up to the promises, it was really good! The garlic naan was great, and I had some spicy ground lamb something, and it was delicious. As we went home we realized we stunk like we'd be slaving over some sizzlin curry all day, and the next day my car still smelled like it! But it was worth it, and we're already talking about the next time...

Saturday -

We decided that we had a lot to take care of around the house this weekend in order to feel comfotable going backpacking last weekend and camping next weekend. So saturday morning, we set to work on the house, Dani working on the kitchen and usual wifely domestic things, and I working on equally husbandly domestic things, in the garage. I got a hankerin to organize and organize I did. I was a mounting, hanging, cargo stowing fool.

Saturday night we invited friends to go to the gun range and then back to our place for dinner. The gun range was alot of fun b/c we had several girls who were either completely inexperienced with shooting or had not shot in a very long time. There were definetlely some interesting (near death) experiences, but everyone made it out alive. Then it was back to the beachhouse for grillin up some ground dead meat on the balcony whatching the sunset into the ocean. The girls sat around talking about whatever it is that girls talk about when the guys aren't around and the guys sat on the balcony drank some port wine and had some cigars. All in all, a very enjoyable evening.

Sunday -

Dani and I got up pre-crack o' dawn and made our way over to Steed Memorial Park in San Clemente for the EasterTogether.com sunrise Easter service that 8 south OC churches got together to put on. Dani's been to sunrise services before and enjoyed them, but I've never been to a one. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was a very cool service overlooking the sun rising over the Ortega mountain range. It definetely had tradition potential.

After that we enjoyed the morning at the house, before heading over to my cousin's in-laws house for Easter dinner/lunch/big meal in a wierd afternoon hour. Randomly, one of my coworkers and his wife's family was there when I arrived, and we were both like, "What are you doing here?" Turns out his wife's family is old friends with the Strombacks, and have been coming to their Easter celebrations since she was little. I'm always amazed at the small world we live in. It was good times and good competitions to be had, as always at the Stromback's.

We had some a rousing bocce ball tournament, a chipping comeption, and even some ladderball.

It was a great day celebrating with great family and friends!

WEEKEND UPDATE

This weekend Dani and I finally got to get our feet wet and go on a backpacking trip, just the two of us. We wanted to just do a quick overnight trip to get us back in the swing of things, and we got more than we bargained for. We went to hike the Piedra Blanca Trail (named after the amazing White Cliffs you hike through) in the Los Padres National Forest, near Ojai, CA. We attempted to hike up the Pine Mountain Lodge campground at about 6400' but we stopped about 2 miles short and decided to bed down at a small campground we had passed about a quarter mile back. Which turned out to be great, because we were the only people for miles around, and there was nobody playing Tom Petty on their iPhones next to us (as we experienced last camp out), or disturbing us whatsoever. Just us, God, and nature, it was great. We have resolved however to go back and with a slightly earlier start to the day, complete the climb up to Pine Mountain Lodge, can't wait.

This weekend while most of you were celebrating Valentine's day we had a wedding to attend and it was quite a doosy...

My boss, Neha Patel, got married on Saturday to Astik Patel (no relation) on Saturday. It was a traditional Indian wedding and we felt lucky to get to be a part and witness this grand event.

There are too many great pictures to only show a few so here's a slideshow:

It was so much fun to experience the Indian culture and people that I had heard so much about from Neha. They are such a fun loving relaxed people that the entire day was just fun. At the end of the reception I realized that I must have some Indian roots, because I think that is where I got some of my dance moves. Dani got some video that I will try and post later. It really was an amazing experience that I will not soon forget.

Then on Sunday, Dani and I decided to go for a hike so we went out to the Ortega Highway, bought ourselves an Adventure Pass (for access to the local National Forests) picked up a map and took off down a one lane road toward a trail that sounded intriguing; 15 miles and too many bumps for Dani to not be sick later... and we were at the Teneja Falls Trailhead. It was definetely worth the curvy drive, as it has been raining in the area last week, so we got to see a rare SoCal waterfall! And this was a big one, 5 tiers, pools at each level, and tons of rocks to scramble around on.

We rounded out the weekend going to the Sunday Night Service at Mariner's and Kenton's message delivered the goods as always, as we are learning to be wiser through Proverbs. We then came home and I put Dani to shame at Chess once again, and all is right with the world.

Weekend Update

So I realize I have been a bit MIA from the blog world for a few months now, but I do have an excuse. I got married!!! So me and my new WIFE have been a bit busy for a while now, but now after being able to come home and actually just relax with my WIFE, and after many requests and much anticipation, I've decided to give the blog another go, so here's the update...

- SUPER BOWL EDITION -

FRIDAY

Seeing as how we just got married 2 weeks ago, and a week of that was spent on our Honeymoon in Costa Rica (more on that later) this Friday was our first Friday night as a married couple. So what do we do with it? We could have had a super nice date, just us and something special, we could have seen a movie to just escape for a bit, we could have rented a movie and snuggled up on the couch and had popcorn. All of that sounds like normal first newlywed Friday nights right? Aparently we're on the express train to oldywedville because we did none of that. We actually had 'big' plans to go shopping at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, but then as the evening got later and later (around 6:30) we decided we really didn't want to leave the house. So we decided we would watch some TV together and eat in. So we did that watched 2 TV shows and we both thought it was late and time to get in bed (AT 9:00!). So Dani got in bed, grabbed her book, and I opened up my newly purchased dresser and proceeded to organize my sock and t-shirt drawers. We were both out by 10. so as relaxing as it was, hopefully we'll have some more exciting Friday nights to share with you in future updates...

SATURDAY

I had to be on call and do some work so we had to stick close to the house over the weekend, but Dani and I got up and did some major cleaning on the beachhouse and cleared out a ton of boxes and trash that had accumulated from wedding presents and such. So it was good to actually see the house start looking like we live here and don't stockpile cardboard in case of a global shortage. Then Scott and Amy came down to have some lunch and hang out. We grilled some of the biggest and best homeade bugers (from Costco of course) on our new grill that I got just before the wedding! They were delicious, and then after dinner we got to take a nice walk down to the pier, where Scott found some delicious baitfood and went all Gollum on it. Then Dani and I hit up the Saturday night service at Mariner's, great as always. Afterward, Dani and I hit up a housewarming party with all of her ex-work peeps, who were able to commiserate the woes of unemployment together.

SUNDAY

Another quiet morning spent working, while Dani was away at the Flea Market with Holli, but midday Dani and I got to go lay on the beach for a while and soak up a few rays desperately trying to keep our Costa Rican tans alive. Then it was off to our fiance-lovin', Jesus-freakin, football-fanatic friend Rocky's house for the SuperBowl, great times, and great to catch up with all of our friends that we had seen little of lately. Then about 30 seconds after the game was over Dani and I, and the only other married couple there, Phil and Kirsten, were out of there and on our way home... hmmm... sensing a trend... and I like it, just together time, with me and my WIFE!

"Here's the fake news!" ...err ...update.

**Special 4 Day Edition!**

FRIDAY

Brent invited me to play Glowball Golf, but before that we met up at Frudruckers for dinner with Dani, Kim, Jill, and my friend Ryan. When Brent suggested Frudruckers he said "Random, I know." And I was like, random? Not at all! I was excited, come to find out, NONE of our group had eaten there before except for Brent. It is totally my kind of place, the have all different sizes of burgers up to the 1 pounder! Ready for complete customization to your liking. And to top it off they have vats of hot melted cheese ready for dipping.... for FREE!

Anyway, back to Glowball, it was a blast, they turn off all the lights and you're out playing golf with a glowing ball on a completely dark course. It was the most unique golfing experience I've ever had. The crowd was not your average golf crowd, it was definetely an 'after hours' type crowd. It was a 72 player 9-hole shotgun start tournament. We ended up playing 11 holes, and played on one green for about 15 minutes having some sand shot contests. SO much fun, we'll definetely be back next time!

SATURDAY

We went to the Orange Street Fair on Saturday night. It was my third time attending the street fair, I can't believe I've lived here long enough to have attended an annual event 3 times. It was good food and fun as always. I had a veal brat on Switzeland Street, a Carlsberg beer in Denmark, a Souvlaki Beef Gyro on Greek Street, and Ableskivers for dessert in Norway.

SUNDAY

I came home from the street fair to a surprise, my roommate had moved out 15 days earlier than I expected. When I came home all of his stuff was gone, and he was too, with out a trace, with out a note, and with the money that he owed me. Oh well... as Dani said, its the end of the era of roommates! So we spent Sunday cleaning the beach house from top to bottom, now that it will be just me staying there untill Dani moves in after the wedding. We rewarded our cleaning efforts with a delicious meal at our new favorite hole in the wall, Taco Mesa, with Phil and Kirsten, before we hit up night Church at Mariners.

MONDAY

Dani and I made the most of having a whole extra day to spend together, and decided to go for a long paddle on the kayaks. We finally did what we've been talking about doing for months. We kayaked from Dana Point Harbor to Calafia Beach, where I live. About 7.5 miles on the water, and took about 2.5 hours, it was a great paddle, we felt such a sense of accomplishment afterward. It was definetely an exercize in strength building, in all senses of the word, mentally, physically, relationally, and spiritually.

It was another pretty chill weekend for us, in fact I think I'll phone in the update today, since Dani gave a pretty good rundown of it on her blog yesterday.

They only things I might add are that we did go to the beach, and for a swim, even though I had to convince Dani to go in the water, it was so nice.... as always. Also, on Saturday morning, I ran from my house to Dani's house! From San Clemente to Dana Point, it was about 8 miles. It was a great run, but its wierd to me now, 8 miles sounded like a lot when I was only running 3 or 4, but now its like, well if you can run 8 you can run 10 or 12 or 15, I mean its only 1/3 of a marathon!

WEEKEND UPDATE

This weekend was much more relaxed than usual, since I had to work and be on call for support. But it was still a great weekend. So here's the update:

FRIDAY

My friend Nate Deibler is getting married this weekend, so on Friday we had a bachelor party for him. No drinking, drugs, or stippers, just good fun. We started off the night by getting a delicious meal at Claim Jumper. I had the liver and onions.... mmmmmmm.... so good. I also learned about a new drink, the Rocky Brown. "Iced tea with grenadine and cherries, heavy on the grenadine" says our friend Rocky Brown when the puzzled waitress asks him what a Rocky Brown is. Later she asks, who Rocky Brown is, and he non-chalantly replies, "Oh, he played for USC."

Then we rolled over to Saddleback lanes for some bowling. We bought two lanes for an hour, so in true Nate style, he says, "let's do speed bowling. Bowl as fast as you can for the hour whichever lane has the most total points wins. But if you hit the lane guard that comes down, you loose 20 points." None of us had ever done this before, but were all for it. We didn't have any amazing scores, but it was actually alot of fun to bowl this way, everyone was on their toes so you never had to sit around waiting for someone to realize it is their turn. After bowling we headed over to the Irvine Spectrum for a game of Diminishing Bridge in the spectrum. It was a fun night, just rolling around town with a dozen or so guys was fun, and something that should happen more often.

SATURDAY

I had to miss part two of the bachelor party (5 mile hike to a bridge that goes nowhere to bungee off of) because I had to work this weekend. I worked 52+ hours this week to try and make up for our department being short staffed. So I was a little busy with that this weekend, but it was kind of nice to get to stay at home and watch alot of olympics. I got my fill of all the little aired sports I'd been wanting to see, handball, field hockey, fencing, water polo, equestrian, etc.... instead of continuous and incessant Phelps coverage.

Brent and Kim came down to visit us at the beach for a few hours so it was fun to catch up with them and go swimming in the ocean. They always get sentimental when they come to the beach house, which Brent's dad and uncle owns, and tend to talk about their dreams and stuff. Its great, and actually very inspiring to think about my own dreams.

SUNDAY

More of the same as Saturday, working and olympics. Dani and I still managed a couple hours down at the beach and in the ocean, we just can't stay away. Then I felt the need to go for a "quick jog" but I got into it while I was out and ended up running 5 miles. I can't wait for the next race! Dani and I got a registry started at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I was getting a little carried away with zapping all the cool gadgets and gizmos and stuff, and Dani said, OK, time to go. She could tell I was registered out. So then we went to the Sunday Night Service at Mariners that was relocated to the Cafe on campus due to a wedding. It was great, I love the vibe of Church in that kind of venue, low key, acoustic type worship. Praying together for the people around you, it is very real and inviting.

So all in all, it was a much needed, very low key, relaxing weekend.

Sorry for the delay, I know you've been waiting for the update. It was yet another completely fun filled weekend, so let's get to it.

FRIDAY

The weekend started early as we had a half day on Friday because DealerSocket, the company I work for (also the best company in the world, really, we won an award naming us that), had our 3rd annual Beach Luau. So we went down to the beach, Dani came with, got to meet all the work peeps. We hung out, grilled, played some football. Good times. Then Dani and I took off as we had a double date with Phirsten (our couple name for Phil and Kirsten). We went to the spectrum to see Dark Knight, finally. It was a great movie. Lots of fun superhero action, but also lots of plot, thinking, crime drama kinda stuff, to keep you interested.

SATURDAY

We got up early for the FUEL Grow Hike. We went out to Whiting Ranch wilderness for a 'moderate' hike. Of course it was claimed to be moderate by Mike Landa, my buddy that runs 100 mile ultra marathons. So it was a decent hike. We read some verses together, prayed, and talked about finding time alone with God. It was cool to get out and hike with some friends.
After being good and athletic for a while we thought we go to The Hat for lunch for some good ol' pastrami dip sandwhiches and a bag full of french fries. Delicious.
Then Dani and I got to spend some time relaxing at my place and nap in the hammock under the sun shade, storing up some energy for our next activity. Last week Dani asked if I could teach her how to play basketball!! That's right she, just out of the blue asked me to take her to play basketball. (Guys, in case you're getting any ideas, you might want to click this.) So I was super excited to, so we scouted out a vacant basketball court in Dana Point. I thought that we could just have some fun playing around, maybe give her a few pointers. But as often happens with Dani, I was pleasantly surprised to see that she was a super quick study, and picked up skills like a champ, and even better, wants to play again!
The evening was spent grilling at our friend Scott's house. Lots of food, fun, and friends. We grilled, ate, drank, swam, jacuzzied, smoked cigars. Good times. One disappointment however, I bought a Heineken mini-keg to share. But it sucked! Has anyone used one of these before? All it did was spew out foamy beer. OK, two disappointments. At the end of the night we discovered that Scott had one of those little Fischer Price picnic tables. I thought it'd be fun to try and sit in it. It wasn't that fun, for me, for everyone, lots of fun. I was stuck, but did anyone try and help me out? No. They all stood around laughing pointing and saying, "NO don't move, I'll go get my camera!"

SUNDAY

Dani and I finally went kayaking in Newport Harbor! We've been wanting to do that for a while now. And it was all we hoped for. The harbor is even bigger than we thought, once you're in the water. We paddled for over 3 hours and about 7 miles, and still didn't even see half of it. My favorite part though was the fish! There were fish (Yellowfin Croaker, I think) LEAPING out of the water, sometimes as high as 3-4 feet! And they were everywhere, so I'm definetely bringing my pole next time.

We saw these huge seals jumping up on the boats that were moored in the middle of the harbor, and they would play king of the mountain pushing each other off the boat and barking when victorious.

Last summer, we went out to eat with my family while my mom and sister were in town. I love oysters, and I love hot sauce. So there I was eating these oysters and select a random hot sauce of the shelf of dozens of hot sauces to choose from. I chose Dave's Insanity Sauce. Which measures 180,000 on the scoville scale (didn't know that at the time). Anyway, I just piled up a heathly dollop of insanity sauce on my oyster, and my sister had the presence of mind to take pictures.

WEEKEND UPDATE

This weekend was an amazing weekend that reminded me why I love "Livin' Out West!" It was busy (so forgive the length of the post), but it was so relaxing and free. So, here's the update.

FRIDAY

Dani and I got out of work as early as we could, and booked it to the Doheny State Beach (pictured) in Dana Point for a quick surf session. The waves were great, the water was 70 degrees, and it was just nice to be out in the ocean with my fiance. So we played in the waves for a bit, then had to bail to go get ready for dinner. We had D46 with Fuel on Friday night, where we all sign up and get placed into groups of six and have dinner at different restaurants. We were placed in a group at Buca di Beppo. It was good company and a delicous meal served family style. Then we met up with all the other tables at The District for desert.

SATURDAY

I got up bright and early for another surf session, I'm beginning to see why this sport is addicting. It was my friend Mike's birthday, and he's just getting into surfing as well. Dani was having breakfast with friends, so Mike, Kara, and I rode bikes from my house down to San Onofre State Beach. I towed 3 surfboards behind my bike, it was a good workout, and definetely good traithlon training. It felt so good to hit the water after the ride. And once we paddled through the waves the sun came out and it was so beautiful and peaceful out there. Just kinda makes everything else fade away and you're just alone with yourself and God. Even if there is some overweight hairy surfer floating by you, there's still just something freeing about being out there.

We had to keep it short however, because it was on to the next adventure for me. Dani and I decided to cash in her birthday present for me, whale watching gift certificates! We had heard that the blue whales (100 ft/100 tons) were here feeding right now, and stood a good chance of seeing them, but no luck on the whales. We did however see a TON of dolphin. They were so much fun, swimming and jumping all around the boat. Once again, being out on the water was very freeing from the cares and concerns of the world, and all that mattered was enjoying the beauty of the ocean with my fiance.

Here's some video I took of the dolphins jumping just in front of the catamaran, the video doesn't do it justice, but it gives you an idea.

Saturday night, Dani and I checked out the Saturday night service at Mariner's. It was cool! A much smaller crowd, but still a great service. Then we went home and watched Batman Begins, I had never seen it, and loved it, so now I'm ready for Dark Night!

SUNDAY

We got up early again and went up to Newport to kayak in the back bay with Dani's Maid of Honor, Donna. It was very peaceful and quiet in the back bay. And fish were jumping all over the place! We'll definetely have to go back there with a rod.

Dani had plans with friends the rest of the day, and I spent the rest of the afternoon around the house, it was nice to get some stuff done, but it was nicer to lay in the new hammock, under the sun shade, in the 70 degree breeze, drink a Heineken, read a book, and love life. I didn't plan on going down to the beach, as I already felt like the weekend was too good to be true, but I got online to check the conditions anyway. When I saw the water was 74 degrees, I couldn't resist running down for a swim. I planned on just dipping in for about 20 minutes, but conditions were so perfect, I couldn't bring myself to get out and stayed in the water for 2 hours! The waves were just the right size, for the best body surfing I've ever experienced! I wouldn't have thought it possible, but it was yet another wonderfully freeing experience.

Then to top it all off, we had a core leadership team meeting at our pastor's house. And what did Justin want to talk about all night? Freedom. What makes you feel free, and what freedom are you fighting for? It was an appropriate and fitting end to an amazing weekend.

FRIDAY

Friday night, Dani and I got to take some more engagement pictures. Just our style too, it wasn't all posed and staged in a studio. It was just us on the beach playing around and having fun, we were lucky enough to have our friend Rick take the pics, and Maid of Honor, Donna to hold all of our stuff. Will definetely post pics asap. Then we took Rick out to Sonny's Pizza and Pasta for his inaugural Sonny's experience, and we were all more than satisfied with our post-pic session meals.

SATURDAY

Dani and I joined a few close friends and about 15 thousand of our fellow OCers at the US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach. It was a beautiful day with warm water and pretty nice waves, a great day to sit on the beach in my new Costco Beach Chair and watch surfing and hoopla.

SUNDAY

5:30am Sunday, Dani, Seth, Mike, and I drove up to Big Bear Lake for the California Multisport Triathlon. It was a 6 mile trail run, 15 mile mountain bike ride, and a 5 mile lake paddle. We decided to go relay style instead of solo, and were able to come in with an overall time of 4:36:20. It was alot of fun, and a beautiful day up in the mountains (which made Dani and really want to go camping). Here's some pics that our wonderful support staff snapped:

We wrapped up our study of Acts in small group last night, covering the last two chapters. These were a great couple chapters about Paul weathering a storm and getting shipwrecked and finally making it to Rome. It is a bit of an anticlimactic end to the great story of Acts, as it concludes with Paul proclaiming the kingdom of God "with all boldness and without hindrance!" But then again, I'm not sure how else I would have it end. It gives hope of things to come.

I asked the group what lesson or application they pulled out of the last two chapters and it was interesting because everyone had a different answer. The thing that I learned was that God will allow for things to happen and cause situations to occur in order to conform to his plan. As Paul later writes in Ephesians 1:11-12:

11 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of
him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12 in
order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the
praise of his glory.

God had a plan that he had revealed to Paul for him go to Rome to teach of Jesus and proclaim the gospel. Paul gets there but takes a most unlikely route. He is taken prisoner, has to appeal to Caesar in order to avoid getting tried by the Sanhedrin in Jerusalem. He is placed on a grain boat with other prisoners set to sail during the winter when it was not safe to sail. They go through a storm so intense that all the men on board lose hope of surviving and go without food for 14 days. They shipwreck on the island of Malta, the guards normally would kill the prisoners to keep them from escaping in the event of shipwreck, but they spare their lives. They winter on Malta where the islanders take unusually good care of them. Next spring, they board a new boat that finally takes them to Rome. An unbelievably circuitous route that only God could make happen in order to fulfill his plan of Paul going to the metropolis of Rome to tell about Jesus.

FRIDAY

Dani and I went to the movies, decided not to fight with the Dark Night crowds and save that for later. We debeated long and hard over whether to see Hancock or WallE. Well turns out the movie times decided for us after all and we saw WallE. It was pretty good, probably the least talking I've ever seen in a movie, save Disney's Fantasia. But it was impressive to see a story told with so few words. The graphics were also very impressive, they were the most real animated robots with feelings I've ever seen.

SATURDAY

FUEL had our 2nd Annual Beach Decathlon in Huntington, good times were had by all, and rope burns as well. We competed in events such as tug of war, lifegaurd races, and buried treasure. But perhaps the most fun was the all out water balloon war at the end. No rules just peg people as hard as you can with water balloons. Later, Dani and I started putting our registry together. I was very confused and overwhelmed by this whole process. But Dani was very sure of what needed to happen so that's probably good. Because if it were up to me we might just end up with a bunch of gadgets and tools and stuff, and not be able to cook any food or have anywhere to sit.

SUNDAY

Dani and I got to go Kayaking first thing on Sunday morning, it was so peaceful and tranquil, we loved it. Then we spent the rest of the day at the San Clemente Ocean Festival. This was great fun, and it wasn't too uncomforably overcrowded. But they had games, races, sand sculpture contests, art, and old woodie cars on the pier. It was great eye candy, and I mean good eye candy, not the bad-rot-your-eyes kind of eye candy. I'll post some of my pics later.

Sunday night we went to chuch at Rock Harbor at the Shark Club, for the LAST TIME! We were sad to find out that last night was the last time they would be having a night service at the Shark Club that Dani and I were fond of attending because of the intimate envoirnment, great worship, and a personable pastor. But its kind of exciting at the same time, because now we have other oppurtunities to explore.

This week in small group we went through Acts 24-26 which covers Paul's trail and defense to Felix, Festus, and King Agrippa. I learned a couple things from these passages.

Felix was known as being a bit of tyrant, killing any insurections, and he stole his wife from another man. Soon after Paul began his defense to Felix, Felix cuts him off and says, we will have to postpone the trial. This seems odd as the trial had only just begun, but when Paul begins talking about how he strives to live a life of good conscience between God and man, and stating exactly what he is really on trial for here (the resurection of the dead), Felix cuts him off. Why would he do this? Perhaps it was because it hit Felix a little close to home, it was a little to personal. I realized that this happens alot when you begin to make things personal when talking to people about Jesus and the church. Many people are willing to jump on the 'debate train' about the doctrine or principles of the gospel, but when it gets personal they get off. And I think all to often we stop there, feeling good that at least we opened the door, and had that conversation with them. And that's true! And good! But here's what I learned, its important not to stop there, and to continue to have conversations, because when the gospel gets personal that is where it becomes most effective. That is when it changes lives! And that is what is motivating to me about sharing it in the first place.

The other thing I learned was in Paul's defense to King Agrippa in Ch 26. Paul very clearly lays out his testimony of how he has lived his life, how he came to know Jesus, and how his life has been changed after that. He has main bullet points of each section, a resume of his story, if you will. This made me realize that I need to be more thorough and deliberate about knowing and telling my story, the whole story, and how my life has been changed. Because that is the whole point of telling your story, to connect with people, and hopefully draw them toward Jesus.

FRIDAY

We went over to the Do's (Holli and Huy) to hang out and have a meal. Huy prepared (warmed up) a delicious Costco TriTip, and some other delicious sides. We ate out on the lawn in the back on blankets, i noticed the ground was quite moist, but nobody else was saying anything so I just went with it. When I got up I realized the entire butt of my shorts was soaked. I asked if nobody else felt wet, apparently I was just sitting in a puddle. After dinner we discovered Christina's and my new favorite game.... SINGING BEE with Joey Fatone. Its exactly what you would expect super cheesy and super fun. Can't wait to have another shot at the "most coveted trophy in the world".

SATURDAY

Dani and I went to the Beach with her mom, just a pretty relaxing day. Then we went to Sabatino's Sausage Company in Newport for Dinner with Dani's parents and extended family. It was another delicious meal, I had the salmon and half of Dani's GIANT sausage stuffed pepper. They make their own sausage there and it is amazing. It was good food and good times, everyone was glad to welcome me to their family, and all the antics that come with them.

SUNDAY

I spent most of the day training for the triathlon I have coming up in TWO WEEKS! I kayaked, biked, and ran. Dani and I had our Relationship class which was all about Money and Finances. And it got me excited about retiring...er I mean saving. Then we ate at Taco Mesa in Costa Mesa, great little hole in the wall, delicious. You Orange Countians should try it! Thanks for the tip Phirsten.

All in all, a pretty chill weekend for us.

In my small group we've been going through and studying the book of Acts. We're almost done now, only a few chapters left. Its been a great study. I always thought of Acts as just the story of what happened after the resurection, and the beginning of the church, but I've been amazed week after week at what God shows us through chapter after chapter. Something different and very relevant to our lives every week.

Here's what I learned this week, going through Acts 22:22 - 23:35.

God is at work in our lives, and Jesus is at work in His Church. I think it is very easy to fall into "I" thinking. Look what I did. I am so good. I am so proud of myself. Look how far I've come. The letter from the centurion Claudius Lysias in chapter 23 shows us how it is human nature to make yourself look good, tell how great you are, and what a great job you did.

But we need to remember that we are not doing or causing the good things in our life. We screw things up, depravity is our nature, but God is working in our lives to make us better and to draw us back to Him.

I have to remember to humble myself and give God the praise for the people and things in my life. My family, friends, and fiance are all from God actively working in my life and the life I lead is actually not lead by me at all. Instead of leading my life, I just need to follow Jesus.

New Approach

Friends and coworkers alike are often surpised by the things I do on the weekends. I'm not sure exactly why, I mean, I am busy and do a lot, but I'm just having fun. So I think I'll try and do a weekend update blog to give a report of the goings on of the weekend for me.

----------------------------

This weekend was a great one, 4 days long! Dani had Monday off, so I took it off too. I did have to work saturday and sunday mornings for a few hours, but you don't mind it as much when you have a 4 day weekend.

- THURSDAY -

Dani and I drove down to Phil's parents house in San Diego (Ramona to be exact). We played a fun game called In a Pickle, which was surprisingly alot of fun. I recomend it. You've got to have good persuasive skills to win this one.

- FRIDAY -

We drove in to Julian to spend the day there, but when we arrived we were surprised to find that the town was closed! More or less. They had all the streets into town blocked off, b/c the local Independance day parade was there. Most of the town was closed due to the parade so we had no choice but to partake, but it was pretty entertaining seeing the fake fights and shootouts and the football team riding in the back of a dumptruck.

- SATURDAY -

Worked in the morning, then Dani and I spent some time at the beach, crowded as it was, it was still nice. Then we went out with Scamy, our affectionate couple name for Scott and Amy. Scott took us to my new favorite restaurant, called The Hat. They put pastrami on everything.... and lots of it. So, good, can't wait to go back. Thank you Scott. Then we saw Get Smart. It was really funny, and not a bad movie, plot and acting wise. Two thumbs up.

- SUNDAY -

Dani's parent's came to town, for the next two weeks, while Dennis takes a class at Biola. We spend midday with them, showing them the wedding site and such. Nice to see them, they bought us lunch and called it our second engagment party.

I went for a long run with Mike to train for the Triathlon I have coming up in LESS THAN A MONTH!

After our Preparing for Marraige class, Dani and I went to church at Rock Harbor at the Shark Club, and loved every minute of it. They just started a new series on the sermon on the mount, should be interesting.

- MONDAY -

Monday, was amazing. Off-Road.com was closed on Monday as well, so Dani had the day off. So I took the day off so that we could have a whole day to relax. It was great, we just went down to San Onofre State Beach, hoping that hitting it on a Monday would cut down on the crowds. It was great, lots of surfers, but the beaches were pretty clear. The water was a few degrees warmer because of the power plant. We finally got to take out the surfboard. I got in some good paddling practice at least. Dani seems like she'll be a natural surfer. It was an amazing day just to sit, play, and enjoy what God created.

New Orleans

A couple weeks ago, I had the oppurtunity to go on a mission trip to New Orleans with some other leaders in Fuel, we did SO MANY different things. It was a very impactful trip, and I learned a lot. We did so much, that at times I was frustrated that we didn't have more time to practice, or do the things we were doing. But I learned that I don't have to be in New Orleans or on a mission trip to practice some of those things, and I could continue to do them in my everyday life. In addition, I also learned a few things about empathy. Thank you to all who supported me in prayer and financially on this trip.

My roomate is a huge Patriots fan, so this is what I found on our door when I came home from the Super Bowl. My neighboor made us a shrine to Eli.

My office got resituated and everyone was moved around. I lucked out, here is my new view from my desk.

I went over to Catalina Island for a half marathon with some friends.

Rocky, Micheal, and Michel were all stoked about running, but unfortunately an injury kept me sidelined.
It looks like I'm a drunk bum sneakin in the picture.

So, while they raced, I babysat all the stuff and saw all the great sites.

Dani and I got to kayaking with Ashley and Jill on Monday before Ashley left.

This about sums up the day, Ashley and Dani are stoked and rearin' to go, and Jill going the wrong way and wondering how we talked her into this.

Food Diary - Saturday & Sunday

I went to the Fuel Leadership Retreat this weekend. We stayed at the Double Tree at the Spectrum. Here's what I ate:

Saturday

Breakfast - A jalepeno bagel, an everything bagel, and hotel coffee.
Lunch - Wahoo's Carne Asada Nachos (my usual there) with Dr Pepper.
Dinner - All you can eat fajita bar at Dave & Busters. I ate 4 big ones, and some chips and queso. Iced Tea to drink.
Late Night Snack - I got hungry around 2:00 am, and there was no food or snack machines in the hotel. So we got a group and went to Denny's. I had an omelete with sausage, bacon, mushrooms, and extra cheese. Coffee to drink.

Sunday
Breakfast - Fruit spread (watermelon, strawberries, banana); Sausage, Bacon, Potatoes, eggs, and french toast. With coffee to drink....lots of coffee.
Lunch - Food court at the Spectrum, I had a giant slice of pizza (meat lover's of course) and a pepperoni roll. Dr Pepper to drink.
Dinner - No dinner.
Late Night Snack - Cheeze-its and Cherry Cider to drink

... and that concludes the week! I hope it was interesting and educational, maybe I'll bring it back from time to time.

Lunch - Went home and made a sandwich with honey ham, bacon, mayo/mustard, lettuce, pepperjack, and lots of bleu cheese. With a Diet Coke to drink (ran out of DP).
Afternoon Snack - A bunch of white grapes, and more cajun trail mix.
Dinner - Ling and Louie's at the Spectrum, I had some Tempura rolls for an appetizer, and the Filet Mignon with Black Mushrooms (with extra black mushrooms) and Iced Tea to drink.
After Dinner Snack - Thai Iced Tea with Boba, surprisingly delicious!

Breakfast - 7-11 Blueberry Coffee w/ 10 creamers, and a "SUPREME Sausage Bite" for only 40 cents more.
Lunch - A six-inch melt from Subway. (This is a SUPER light lunch for me)
Dinner - 90% of a large bag of Sizzlin' Picante Doritos and 2 beers.

Camping a la Julian

Last weekend we went family-style camping with some friends in the mountains of San Diego by the little town of Julian.

We thought we were going to get some awesome goodness from Pita Pit on the way down, but it was closed for a month!

So we had to go grocery shopping instead...

Then we came down with an acute case of Jaundis.Holli, Huy, and Dani were pretty stoked about it.

We had an 80's theme night at Fuel last week, and I decided to use my facial hair to my advantage and go for Magnum PI.

That's my fellow belong core leader, Liz who's rocking the AC/DC shirt and the totally awesome side ponytail. I'm not sure how we ever thought the mustache or the side ponytail were ever cool.

White Christmas!

I went with Dani to spend a week on her parent's ranch up in Oregon. It was snowy the whole time, and we got to help out with the ranch stuff. We went up to Crater Lake to go snow shoeing, and I've never seen that much snow. We had a great time and as you can see it was beautiful.

Surf's Up?

I finally got surf board over the weekend from my neighboor's garage sale. It's a 7'6" fun board. I'm pretty stoked about it. I can't wait to try it out.

Today was supposed to be a monumental day of waves in California and in parts of it, it was. But not here, we were blocked by Catalina Island. There were still 4-6 ft. waves here today, but the AVERAGE for the California coast today was 18 ft waves! Up in the bay area, at Maverick's, there were 30 ft waves, and I heard that a surfer unfortunately drowned there yesterday.

Ireland was slammed today though! 50 foot waves!

Foat Wuth Ah Luv Ya

Here are my pics from our trip back to Texas. This was my first time to go back to since I moved out here a year and half ago. Dani came with and we had a great time. We went to the renowned Fort Worth Zoo, had a grand Thanksgiving, celebrated Honey's (my grandmother) 80th birthday, and then got stuck in a blizzard in west Texas!

Good Eats

I just got back to California from having Thanksgiving in Texas last week. Will post pictures soon. It was a great week with lots good eats. In addition to the abundance of food on Thanksgiving there was a list of restaurants that we had to hit while we were there because they aren't out west. I'm proud to say that we hit every one on the list:

Burning Men

So the fires are out now, and people are breathing a sigh of relief and fresh air after a long week of smokey skies. Here is a picture of one of the fires bearing down on San Diego. All told there was a couple dozen fires, some big, some not so big, some deadly, some destructive. There were 10 deaths, and 1,500 homes completely destroyed.

I didn't think much of the disaster myself untill the fires at Camp Pendelton came within 4 miles of my house. A fire that had burned 32 square miles was just 4 more miles from making me and a thousand others homeless. It really made me realize the magnitude of this disaster. It is a natural disaster because it was fueled by the strong Santa Ana winds, but the worst part is that alot of these fires were started by people, intentionally. I don't quite get what would cause a man to commit arson, and arson seems like too light a word for this crime. Its not just starting a fire. It's robbing people's entire livelihood, and sometimes their entire lives. And all so you can feel powerful?

There was one suspected arsonist that was caught in the act, and when he tried to ram the squad car to get away the policeman shot one shot into the vehicle, and it hit the suspect in the head, killing him. Some have criticized the use of force, but I applaud the policeman for not being afraid to act quickly and fiercely against this crime. It is as serious as murder. There is a $150,000 reward out to catch these cowards, and I pray that they are all brought to justice.

I've been thinking about this since the fires started, about what drives a man to commit arson. And I say a man for a reason. I read online that only 12% of arsonists are female. So this is pretty much a male malfunction. I believe that it has to do with a man not feeling like a man. When a man does not feel manly in his life he will find other ways to fufill that need, because men need to feel manly. The problem is that this is not manly, and it makes them feel manly because they feel strangely good when that power to have the capability to destroy wells up in them and they feel even better when they release it. They have gotten their wires crossed somewhere along the way, and have not figured out how to feel manly by being a strong valuable man in community with others. They have either forgotten or were never taught how to be a man who walks through life with purpose and passion.

The real men here are the firemen, and the firewomen are heroes the same. I'm in awe at their willingness to go in and battle these beasts for us, and most of us don't even realize the effort and risk that they are putting forth. They literally fought for days on end without stopping and without relief, and in doing so saved many lives and countless houses and business. Thank God for the firemen.

Ever try this stuff? I've heard its taste compared to motor oil, chewing iron tablets, and belching in solid form.

Apparently they pump this stuff into kids from birth in England and Austrailia. And thus they grow up with a taste for it, and they put it on everything over there.

Well, I just had my first Vegemite experience. And I was pleasantly surprised! I actually liked it, and went back for seconds. Maybe its the negative descriptions I've heard. Maybe it was my taste for salty things.

Or maybe it's just good!

1. I've wanted a blog for a while, but I've procrastinated on starting one for a few years.
2. I'm a big procrastinator.
3. I'm proud to say that I grew up in Fort Worth, Texas (AKA Cowtown!).
4. I moved to Austin when I was 19 (AKA The Live Music Capital of the World!).
5. Austin is probably my favorite city.
6. When I gradutated from Texas State I decided to pack up my car, and drive to California.
7. California is working out pretty well for me, I love livin out west. Californian's think that 'out west' is weird term.
8. I have a great job, that I love, using my degree. (Who'd of thought?)
9. I live and work in San Clemente, California.
10. San Clemente is rivaling Austin as my favorite city.
11. My house is right by the beach!
12. I really like the beach, and try to go there everyday that I can.
13. I try not to be superstitious, but I still get an eerie feeling about the number 13.
14. I was just in a traithlon (Yay), but had a flat tire (Boo) so I want to do more of them.
15. I want to run in a marathon.
16. I've been in 21 states and 1 province.
17. I've never been to Europe, but I want to go to Greece, France, Switzerland, England, and Ireland among others. And Mexico, I know that's not in Europe but I want to go there.
18. I really enjoy building things with my hands, and wood working.
19. I can type 60 wpm with 95% accuracy.
20. I love white-water rafting.
21. Even though I lived in Texas my whole life, I am surpisingly accent-less, except when sleepy, I'm told.
22. I love my family, and I'm thankful to have grown up in a good home.
23. I never liked to eat my mom's cooking growing up.

25. Now I miss my mom's cooking.
26. I miss Texas storms. Tornados are fun!
27. I really like strong stormy weather, and going for walks in the rain.

29. Same with reality TV, but lately its become a little old. Survivor kind of lost its edge somewhere between Season 14 and 32.
30. I've been sleeping on a glorified air mattress for almost a year. (See #2)
31. My favorite animal is the white tiger. With all other species albinos just look odd, but the tiger rocks it.

32. I can play the guitar.
33. But I can't memorize songs, kind of a problem.
34. I love sunsets and take pictures of them all the time.
35. My favorite TV shows right now are Lost, 24, and Prison Break.
36. Since I moved to California, I find I watch ALOT less TV. (See 11, 59, & 62)

37. I have an uncanny hidden talent for taking pictures of myself.
38. I could never have pictured the life I have now a year ago.
39. I am a Christian. God is my friend and Jesus is my savior.
